The Statue of Liberty is a sight to see, a symbol of America and its freedom. Should a similar sized status of Obama be erected off the coast of Los Angeles or San Francisco as a symbol of the new 21st century America? There was talk of erecting a statue a few years ago but it never materialized. I think it would be a great source of national pride.
Absolutely! That way, when ships and planes carrying people to our shores and they see the complete devastation that he's left behind they understand who it was. Generations will be able to look at and admire the one man who utterly and completely destroyed the greatest nation on earth in only 8 years. I think we should build one at every port while we can still print money. The epitaph at the bottom should read:
"This is what your country will get if you elect a complete moron."
I share the views of my father in that we should not name things nor build monuments for living people. I loved my father's suggestion that if we should name a, say, ship for a living person, then they should be sacrificed on the ways when the launching takes place.
To the point of the question: the Statue of Liberty is a monument to a concept; it is not one of a particular person. Hence, to the question, one is talking about apples and oranges here.
Further, one should wait a great while after a person's time has passed so while their good shines, their bad can be lost in the past. If it is done recently, odds are it won't be just the pigeons that one has a problem with the issue of defacing.
