You can make pipe bombs which aren't exactly firecrackers.
Plus, grenades tend to be a little impractical for muggings or even massacres like the most recent one. Keep in mind that the Littleton duo did have a number of pipe bombs with them and set off a couple mostly for their own amusement. All the deaths were by gunshot.

Also, there is kinda the fact that guns already exist in the US. Over a quarter of a billion of them. It's not like gun control will magically make every gun disappear. A lot of them (even 10% would still mean over 25,000,000 guns) will still be around.
Or maybe you want them to be outlawed and the law to be enforced by mandatory searches of every home and business by the police. Because if you are going to trash the Second Amendment might as well trash the Fourth Amendment.

The problem is if every nation is armed to the teeth that the probablility of disaster by error human or machine, or miscalculation or hardware failure (as an officer said on the K-19 in the movie by the same name the problem of the 50 Kopek resistor or the 25 cent diode) goes way up. All it would take is a small deviation from perfection to plung our world into a holocaust. Our lives could have ended in 1957, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1967, 1973, 1978 or 1983.

there is a fallacy in your argument, that being when you have world leaders like ahmendenajad(sp), and terrorist organizations like al qeada, hamas, hezbolah, etc. who are willing to use what ever weapon they can get their hands on to create terror, then you are quite wrong in your argument that more nuclear weapons would make the world safer.
Nerve gas doesn't kill, people do. Flamethrowers don't kill, people do. Napalm doesn't kill, pilots do Agent Orange doesn't kill vegetation and give humans cancer, pilots do. Howitzer 155MM Cannons don't kill, gunners do.

I have reached the end of my rope with the "Guns don't kill people" argument.
You're right. People kill people. But which people do the killing? People who have bought into the insane culture of gun worship in this country that has overridden the original intent of the Constitution when guns were necessary to life.
Today, thanks to the NRA and their insane supporters, guns are fun and cool and tough. They let you feel like a bad ass. They let you brag that you'll "protect" your family when mythical bad guys attack. They are something to "play with" at the range, in the words of one poster here. They allow you to say cool stuff like "cold dead hands."

Yes, I DO blame guns for yesterday's shooting -- in my neighboring town. I also blame the gun culture and the NRA and everyone who thinks guns are fun and cool and tough.

The guy was a mental defective and was on drugs and he came to learn he was never going to get a girl friend and or earn 6 figures, and everything he ever learned was a lie told to him by liberals who wanted to make him 'Feel Better', and passed his life up the ladder of life..

Nope. Different argument here. We know which nations to be afraid of and we can keep nuclear weapons out of their hands. If we could identify the people to be afraid of we would and we'd keep a whole lot more than just guns out of their hands.
The U.S. has killed more people with nuclear bombs than any other country in the world. Perhaps other countries need to keep an eye on us.
