Best wishes to Engel, a very impressive guy. He was dyslexic and told he would never amount to anything. After college he moved to Egypt, lived there in low-rent district, and taught himself Arabic. Gradually made his rep as a free-lance journalist before getting hired by NBC. He did it by taking a lot of risks. He was in Iraq prior to the invasion and IIRC stayed put until the American troops showed up.
He's an experienced correspondent. He KNEW the risk. One can only hope for the best. But the situation is Syria is becoming increasingly unstable. If he fell into the hands of Syrian governments troops things probably are not going to turn out well for him.
A lot of the fake terrorism and counterterrorism are exposed long after the event and receive scant coverage.
