It's alright. He's not a threat to them and he can communicate with them until they become peaceful and let him go. Or they'll treat him like Danial Pearl.

Best wishes to Engel, a very impressive guy. He was dyslexic and told he would never amount to anything. After college he moved to Egypt, lived there in low-rent district, and taught himself Arabic. Gradually made his rep as a free-lance journalist before getting hired by NBC. He did it by taking a lot of risks. He was in Iraq prior to the invasion and IIRC stayed put until the American troops showed up.

They had staged the kidnapping to blame the government.

NBC’s Conduct in Engel Kidnapping Story is More Troubling than the Brian Williams Scandal

A lot of the fake terrorism and counterterrorism are exposed long after the event and receive scant coverage.

Wow, so the entire thing was faked....

And yet the OP found a way to mention Hillary Clinton as if she should be held personally responsible for the possible kidnapping of a news correspondent that knowingly and willingly went to one of the most unstable countries in the world.

Some folks on City-Data will say absolutely anything, I guess they don't care about embarrassing themselves LOL.
