Needle exchange programs have been around for years. People addicted to drugs aren't going to stop just because someone says "stop doing it."
"Sharing needles helped fuel the HIV epidemic. In 1990, 54 percent of injection drug users in New York City were HIV positive.
To combat the disease, state lawmakers legalized clean syringe exchange programs in 1992. By 2001, the HIV rate among IV drug users in the city had fallen to 15 percent."
That's the problem. Your point of view and conservatives NEVER FIX ANYTHING because you don't live in a place called reality.
Belief in Santa Claus would be more rational than believing that IV drug users are going to "stop" if they can't find clean needles, or people are going to stop having sex if there's no condoms.
Those of us who understand this applaud efforts that reduce disease transmission. Again: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" --- who knows how many thousands these simple efforts will save down the road.
What's your alternative? "Pray about it?" Why don't YOU GUYS keep on praying as hard as you can for these poor souls, and the rest of us can deal with real life.
The inability to deal with and accept the real world must the first characteristic of a social conservative.
