It's a BS stat made up by Handgun Control Inc (the former name for Sarah Bradys business). Their stats are less reliable and accurate than what the NRA publishes.
Doctors kill 10x as many people as are murdered with guns every year. Is that also an interesting stat?
Last year around 30,000 killed by guns including suicides, 50 years at that rate is 1.5M, NRA stats are more accurate?
guns never killed anybody. they are just a chunk of metal. i love the logic, i didnt shoot him that evil white man that made the bullet that came out of my gun, killed him.
Guns, like pens, are an extension of our brains. It's not the gun that kills, it's the brain connected to the hand that holds it.
If we're going to look at studies and statistics... they should break it out by race to see where the real problem lies.
Then we'd have to break it down to that "race" of which you're hinting towards.....and break it down further to their socio-economic standing. The actual statistical numbers may astound you; and make you reconsider your racist tendencies. Have you even tried to understand most of the current sociological science behind the problem in the inner-ghettos? Or are you just one of those who says, "someone needs to control those animals!"......"hand me a gun!".
So are we to assume the casualties of war were killed by weapons other than guns?
Well to be fair in most modern wars WW2 onwards the number of casualties to artillery, air and missile strikes outweighs small arms fire.

What if we eliminate suicides, it's well established that the mechanism used to commit suicide has little effect on whether the suicide victim does or does not commit suicide. There are many many ways to self terminate, guns are just convenient, if they were not present, then there are belts, ropes, shoelaces, razor blades and knives, car exhaust, swimming pools, tall buildings even tylenol in sufficient quantities will cause the human body to assume room temperature.
Japan has one of the lowest per capita gun ownership statistics in the world, yet has a suicide rate of 23.8/100,000 compared to the US figure of 12/100,000, the number of people in Japan who kill themselves by self inflicted gunshot is statistically negligible, but they still have close to twice the suicide rate as the US, that's a total of roughly 32,800 suicides per year. Which is more than were killed in the US by all guns including suicides.
