Let's not forget tall walls with barbed wire. We'll need parapets for the guards to keep an eye on things as well. Sure, it sounds like a prison, but the real prison is gun control.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has found the only reasonable solution to our little dilemma. Although, I must say that I would advocate for machine gun turrets - just in case there is an attack.

Gee, no reason to rip into me. It's tough to keep abreast of all the latest development. What, with all of them there mind-control rays trying to break through my "safety barrier". Most days, I don't even know if it's me talking, or Obama, or the UN.
1 main set of front doors unlocked during the school day, plus more doors around the school that are always locked unless there is an emergency like a fire.

Doors locked from the outside, and unlocked from the inside. Unless you are suggesting the doors should always be locked, and then someone should run around with the key during a fire trying to unlock them, which is even sillier.
