Yup. Before conception, you have a sperm and an egg. After conception you have a growing zygote. It's the only event where you have something different after the event than before.

Some like to say that birth is the event but what is the difference between a baby moments after birth and a baby moments before birth?

Six anti-science morons have already voted no.

the answer is up to the woman who has the abortion. I could care less what anyone else thinks besides her

You must be one on them?

The origins of life begins at conception however LIFE begins post live birth. This is why laws internationally only require registration of a live birth, this is not rocket science. There are too many variables and so much that can go wrong in gestation, there in no way to legislate the beginning of life until the foetus is born. This has been so since time immemorial.

Furthermore, if you use IUDs or BCPs, neither of these methods do not guarantee that conception does not occur. Both methods prevent adherence of the fertilised ovum to the uterus wall and will self eject as a clump of dividing cells. Ergo, BC methods are the biggest abortificants.

Even w/o BC methods, a woman may conceive but not get pregnant. How many women miscarry naturally?

If males were able to effectively and economically control their 300M swimmers, there would be no elective abortions and women would not have to bear that burden. As it is, it is easier to control the release of one ovum or prevent adherence to the uterus wall.

You do realise, women can only conceive about 3-5 days of their cycles when they ovulate? Getting pregnant is no longer a lotto, we know how the reproductive systems work. For example, both my kids were conceived in the same month my wife stopped the pill. We knew when to do it and what else helped to ensure she got pregnant.

Many folk are ignoramuses when it comes to this aspect of biology.

Your poll is ridiculously simplistic, the missing key element of course being viability.

If you don't want an abortion, then don't have one.

Abortion should be safe, accessible, and rare, but the details are between a woman and her doctor.

This poll is symptomatic of the complete failure of the debaters on either extreme of the argument. It's not a yes/ no question.

During the nine months of a pregnancy, something that is obviously not a human life becomes something that obviously is a human life. During much of that time it is not obviously either. So any attempt to draw a bright line between what is or is not a human life is completely arbitrary.

The only real answer was not offered by the poll; "It depends."

Every abortion is a tragedy, and no child should die alone.
