The real estate tax needs to be looked at and redone, it's killing their tax revenue. When you have a large office building paying less real estate tax than a single family home on the same street, you have a major problem.

since the dems now have a supermajority in the state legislature, if they're going to reform prop 13 it will be soon.

Splitting California... Do you find it rewarding to cut a dog turd into multiple parts?

I don't know why everyone thinks a state should split along what they consider "political lines". Kind of self defeating. And CA isn't like other states, you can't get what you want by splitting it up so it will never happen.

Keep your mittens off our land.

Kern county probably wants to go north if forced to divide.

I guess we'd have to haggle over who had to keep Bakersfield...

......they don't have a spending problem, just need to raise their taxes higher and higher and higher.

You sound oh so typically Texan.

Why are Texans so jealous of California?

The state won't split. The wealthy will split, however. I never thought I'd leave my home state but it's getting ridiculous here.

The issue for us isn't as much the tax as much as the disparity and the climate of entitlement.

Sorry but no jealousies, I love the state. Absolutely beautiful with a lot of very good people.

You have to be embarrassed though in how your Politicians run the State and the finances.

In a few years CA will have the rich and the poor (to clean their houses). They are killing the middle class.

California is actually doing really well. This year's budget deficit was only $1.9 billion which was one of the smallest as a percentage of GDP of any of the states which had a deficit and even in 2009 and 2010 at the worst of the recession/budget issues it was only 25th out of 50 states as far as the size of the deficit vs GDP. The right wing blogs were simply lying and way over stating how bad it was which isn't surprising given how loose their grasp of reality is.

Heck, the state has been leading the country in new job growth for the last half year and all the economists are projecting it to continue to out perform the national average for next year. As usual the right wing nut jobs are completely clueless and their claims just had no basis in reality.
