Try discussing politics with an average person who lives in Latin America, it is unbelievable the level of ignorance and misinformation. There are people in Latin America who still believe in Communism as a viable alternative
Not to mention the types who think Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and Ahmadinejad are good people.
Politically, I am right-wing and Conservative- I engaged in several political discussions with people in Brazil while I was there and a person with my views there is basically considered "reactionary", "selfish" and "out of touch"
I feel fortunate to live in a right-center nation where most people understand how absurd these left-wing, Marxist ideas are. God bless the USA!
My parents are from Latin America, I've been dozens of times, many different countries. You have absolutely no idea what a Banana Republic is. It also seems that you have no idea what a Christian or leftist is. This thread is one of the most ignorant threads I've come across in days, my initial reaction was to want to vomit in my mouth.

Watching Moon over Parador or Clear and Present Danger doesn't make you an expert on Latin American politics.
LOL. That's what Obama thinks about working class Americans. Dam taxpayers are fighting to hold on to what they worked for, don't want to share, and should realize that it is their duty to "share" their "wealth" with the poor. In his head, if you pay taxes, you are wealthy. If you rely on government for all your needs, you are poor.
I'm a conservative Christian, believe a free market system is the best way to elevate people economically. But I try to be honest with myself, don't automatically condemn other views without trying to understand why those views are held. If you are familiar with conditions in most of those countries you know that wealth is concentrated in very few hands, with little hope for a better life for much of the population. This always leads to social justice movements. Marxism has been demonstrated as unworkable, but the poor, uneducated masses don't know this, and those who lead believe that they are the ones who'll get it right. People don't become disillusioned with it until it's been in place for awhile and they realize they've traded one set of selfish rulers for another with no benefit to themselves. So don't be surprised if someone who's views are shaped by different life experiences than you has a much different perspective.
The poor and uneducated vote for Chavez. He's not popular with the productive class. And it doesn't change what I wrote, that Chavez was funding FARC in Colombia. Colombia is overwhelmingly against what FARC stands for, and saw huge gains in their quality of life under Uribe. Here's an idea, if you want to implement change that the public can get behind, don't set off bombs in public places and kidnap people. If your ideas have merit run for office and convince people they'll be better off doing it your way. If the majority in Venezuela prefer what Chavez is selling then so be it. Don't try to export it to other countries that happen to prefer capitalism.
The "poor and uneducated" They`re the ones that do the work. What a coincidence that this thread pops up on the day I`m leaving for the quasi-socialistic paradise of Costa Rica. If I told a Costa Rican that things are much better in Guatemala or El Salvador they`d think I was insane.
A better question is why are so many American conservatives so damn stupid they think all of Latin American is "Marxist"? They don't even know what Marxism was much less who was a Marxist.
