As far as police officers being over militarized, if the populations of these neighborhoods would act decently, the police wouldn't need such extremes.
So the purpose of this armored cars are to protect the Police? Do I have this right?
The " situation" referred to within the article did not occur in a bad neighborhood unless someone mistakenly assumes all predominately African-American neigborhoods with the ghetto.
Reference to this situation also seems out of place because it's not a war zone inner city neighborhood controlled by gangs where Police are more likely to shot.
Some urban areas need it. Most do not.
Maybe this is the next wave in competitive municipal one upmanship and spending.

I doubt that if you're white you would move your family into a predominantly black neighborhood.

Sometimes killing enough of the police works well enough. It's working in Afghanistan, it's working in Iraq, it's working in many different regions of the world. If people force their will on you, you make it such hell for them that they lack the will to do so.

That's because you turn a blind eye/ear to things.
What am I turning my blind eye to? I see in white neighborhoods out of control police thugs who commit robbery over such things as rusted license plates, going 5 mph over the speed limit, and other frivolous things. At least in poorer black neighborhoods, I don't have to deal with such thugs.
Have you ever noticed that there are ZERO out of control violent white neighborhoods?

Police ONLY patrol "minority" neighborhoods, even if the crime rate isn't high.
