The only people viewing it as an increase are bitter Republicans and ignorant people who haven't been paying attention to the news. The smart and informed people shrug now that the tax holiday is over and go on with their lives.

But if Rolls Royce had to wait for celebrities to buy their cars, they'd go broke. Celebs make up a tiny percentage of the super rich. Well...depending on what you call a celeb i guess. For some people, any wealthy person is a celeb. Not my definition though.

That said, i can go to my hometown (Scottsdale, Az), and the Bentley's are EVERYWHERE. Fashion Square Mall parking garage is full of 'em...and these are not celebs. If it's a nice day out, they'll break out wide arrays of Lambo's, Super Benz's, Rari's, McClarens, Vettes, Range's,...you name it. All owned by people that are as nondescript as you and I. Don't know them from a can of paint.

But still, i'm not about to buy some lame ass idea that the rich are being persecuted, and will no longer buy luxury brands because their taxes just went up by a few percent.

Yeah but the history of that :

Yacht dealers await repeal of luxury tax Levy has squeezed a hurting industry

"Boat dealers in Maryland and across the nation are hoping that Congress will soon throw them a lifeline by repealing a luxury tax on yachts that has crippled an industry"

But don't get me wrong they won't stop buying all their toys if their taxes go up. They will simply shift their dealings around to avoid said higher taxes. Like Kerry did at one point:

Sen. Kerry docks yacht in R.I., saves on taxes:

"Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is docking his family's new $7 million yacht in neighboring Rhode Island, allowing him to avoid paying roughly $500,000 in taxes to his cash-strapped home state."

Although he agreed to pay the tax after being publicly shamed.

The point I am trying to make is the rich are still going to have their fun, trying to "soak them" won't work. They will simply cut back, change up or both. Like businesses after this administration being so hostile towards them they simply begun to sit on cash to the tune of trillions and slowed if not outright stopped hiring.

But whatever, keep trying to go after them. As long as you believe nothing can wrong, then I guess that is all that matters right?. I mean you just said its a "lame ass idea" that the rich will react negatively like buying less luxury items by having their taxes raised, so.........knock yourself out kid. Carry on.

Yawn.

Pretty much everyone is viewing it as an increase. Except for dopey liberals with a low IQ.

You can play silly little word games all you want. FACT is Democrats could have made the tax permanent or extended it. Instead they decided to increase taxes on the middle class after promising not to.

Haha, you're the one playing silly little word games (seems to be a theme for you). Anyone bitching about the "tax increase" was not paying attention. Plain and simple.

Look, even among the super rich set, only a small sliver buy yachts. So obviously only a few precious would-be buyers deciding not to buy one is gonna be felt throughout the industry.

For one, even if you CAN afford a yacht, its use is seasonal for the most part. Moreover, even it dock it chews up thousands of dollars. You can't compare that to owning a luxury car.

In any case, your assertion that this administration is hostile to business is bullsh*t, and you you can't really back it up regardless. Businesses are doing quite well...making more money than ever.

Good grief, sense of humor failure??

There are more wealthy democrats in Washington than Republicans. I posted the list on another thread. Of the top 15, 9 were democrats. The second wealthiest is a Democrat, the poorest was a Republican. So I guess that would mean that Democrats are a good part of the 1% and can live as well, if not better than many Republicans.

That "more money than ever" is made outside the US and it remains outside the US either sitting in a bank or reinvested to generate more money. The only people who benefit, besides those that sit at the top of the companies, are shareholders.

Clearly if this administration was hostile to business, it would do something to force those businesses to bring back jobs to the US or penalize them and take away their tax breaks. Clearly this administration (as did Bush and Clinton) favors big business since big business continues to do "business as usual" - ouside the US.

Absolutely. I can't really argue with you on that. This administration is EXTREMELY business friendly.
