Those places are also the most ideal for Republican Tea Party ideology (little to no government, rich can oppress the poor, little to no rights for minorities or women, etc)
I see the usual paranoid gun-haters are doing their usual hysterical ranting. And then solemnly agreeing with each other in subsequent posts.
Don't correct my grammar unless you are going to do it correctly
Homo Sapiens is the name of the species, not the plural of Homo Sapien, which is not the legitimate term for the species. "Homo Sapiens is more dangerous" would be the correct grammar in this sentence. I did, however, forget to capitalize the proper nouns, which you missed while thinking you were being clever.
I can absolutely promise you that I have worked in neighborhoods where most people would feel far more fearful for their safety than they ever would in the wilds of Alaska. And yes, some of those neighborhoods have shopping malls.
Well, I will say that that is a tortured sounding sentence.
Ok. You're saying that being dropped off in one of the neighborhoods in Jacksonville without a gun would be more dangerous than being dropped off in the Alaskan bush ALONE without a gun. Well, remind me to never go to Jacksonville. Who knew that Jacksonville is more dangerous than Miami. Strange that I've never seen any caution signs in any neighborhoods warning people to not enter unless they are carrying a gun.
btw, the correct way to say what you were trying to say is "The Homo Sapiens species is..."...when you say "homo sapiens" you are talking about "humans" plural. Therefore "are" would be correct. That's why your sentence sounds so weird.

SSDD. (yawn)
And I see that the usual extreme right wing NJs are doing their usual non-responsive posting/ranting by trying to put people on the defensive with lies which are not related to the topic. Old habits die hard.
Clearly you missed the photo in this link. Is THAT what you were referring to in your previous post when you said that in normal societies this would not be alarming?
Check out this Somalia gun nut roaming around in a market - its like the 3rd world version of this Utah gun nutjob in JC Penney:
What's the problem? Look at the people in the background, including children, perfectly at ease. Somalia is poor, but most of Africa is poor and it'd be poor whether he was holding a gun or not. Anyways, he's basically functioning like a policeman.

Actually, I did not say that. What I said was that there are areas of Jacksonville where people would feel that they were in more danger than they would in Alaska. Whether or not those areas are, in fact, more dangerous is a matter of speculation and opinion. Which is a good analogy for people claiming that the AR-15 and similar rifles are more dangerous than the average handgun and should, therefore, be banned. All a matter of speculation and opinion, with little to no basis in fact or logic.

People feel many silly things. I'd take the worst neighborhood of people than a neighborhood of bears. I understand people. I don't understand bears.
Having been in the situation where I had to go from one side of Jacksonville to the other and back again a couple of times in one day, I've gotta say it's the biggest small town I've ever been in.
All in all, it's a good town, though. People are friendly, prices aren't too high, and the beach is 20 minutes from where I live. I miss the mountains and woods up north, but I don't miss the snow. Of course, it helps that I was picking oranges off of my sister's tree wearing shorts and a t-shirt on Christmas Day.

The problem is that we don't want to live in places like Somalia and we don't want our country to "look" like Somalia.
