And the NRA wants to arm teachers and principals. If one firearms safety instructor and former sheriff so quickly made this mistake, imagine how many unsecured guns several hundred thousand armed teachers would leave around.

Guns=safety. Gun nut logic. So just having the gun in the school increased the possibility that some patriotic hero could have killed someone they identified as the bad guy.
