If I had kids, I'd sooner give them cocaine than Coke. The flavored sugar-water industry is one of the biggest and most harmful frauds to ever damage our collective health.
It is ignorance. I use to do it but now I don't; however even when I gave her soda I never gave her too much. Now her grandparents are another thing. If I tell them to not give her soda, they'll sneak it to her anyway, but since I have been educating my daughter on the health risks, she has gotten better with asking for something else and not accepting soda.... For the most part.
No, I wouldn't give my kid soda, and my fiancee and I have been trying to phase it out of our lives before we even have kids so that we rarely drink soda as well.
Sugar addiction can be created by too much soda. Apparently high fructose corn syrup is even more addictive then cane sugar. I has switched to diet cola because of diabetes but I recently stopped drinking that. I am actually, despite winter, feeling better. I had wondered why.
I myself have been cutting back on soda at least as much as I can, if anything I just have a cup of coffee in the day and the rest of the time would normally be water. I have also gotten into drinking some of the more "natural" types of sodas here in ny mainly G.U.S. Soda which is very good and has some interesting flavors as well.

Corn syrup is worse than can sugar.
