Senator Hagel was disappointing. He didn't defend himself; he conceded all his enemies' premises while trying to claim their conclusions were wildly wrong.
Still, that's the way the game is played. If paying a days' worth of lip service to the neocon psychotics gets him four years to thwart their schemes, it's worth it.

And then we find out what his schemes are?
Great. Pass it and then find out what's in it, lol.
Hagel looked like he was someone's derelict, drug adled brother-in-law about to be made company VP because of his connections.
The most astounding thing, aside from Hagel's embarassing responses and lack of confidence, are the comments by Repubs who will still vote to approve!
This is a replay of the Eric Holder approval hearings where EH stumbled, hemmed and hawed and got approved.
Do the legislators not see the same things the viewers see???
With Hagel in charge we should all be having nightmares. This quid pro quo nonsense has to stop when national security is at stake. We can no longer afford tokens and symbolic appointments.
