Yes, indeed... but Debi was the first to win an Olympic medal in winter sports! Not to downplay other athletes' contributions, I just thought she deserved a special shout-out for that.

Sarah Gammon Bickford, 1st African American woman to own a utility company. Former slave & chambermaid purchased 2/3 of the Virginia City Water system in 1888 with her husband Stephen Bickford. They replaced the wooden troughs that carried waters from mountain sources with iron pipes making indoor plumbing possible & installed street hydrants. They also ran a farm that sold produce & poultry to a Chinese miners' colony. She became sole owner of both in 1900 after husbands death.
