It's the weather channel naming them.

Yeah...there were never bad snowstorms in the past: Blizzard of 1977 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Funny how what goes around comes around. We had a few especially cold years in the late 60s and 70s. "Climate Scientists" come out of the woodwork proclaiming the start of a man-caused ice age, due to all the particulate matter we were putting in the air. The story goes that we're blocking the sun's head and reflecting it back to space. The solution was to quit burning fossil fuels, quit driving and live in caves.

Fast forward to the '90s. After a few warm summers more "climate scientists" come out of the woodwork, and claim we're causing global warming due to the stuff we're putting in the air. The solution was to quit burning fossil fuels, quit driving and live in caves.

Give it a few more cold winters, the "ice age" scare will come back into style....and the solution will still be the same.

Funny how no matter what the weather change, the only "solution" is to revert our standard of living to the standards of the middle ages.
