I do not see anything wrong with the EO because it does not force the private sector and gives congress 240 days to come up with a bill. Does anybody doubt that this is a real huge problem?

seeing how an eo is supposed to be used and what it is for, all or most of the eo's could be ruled unconstitutional.

Let me wrap my head around the OP's complaint -- President Obama signed an executive order that helps protect our power grids, banks and communications infrastructure from cyber attacks and gives Congress time to come up with rules.

Man, the guy is a regular hitler, huh?

It is rare that I agree with Obama and I am not a fan of EO's but considering that congress could not agree { of course} on a bill what else was there to do. I am not tech savvy and only can bounce around on the internet and keep my computer running but this is a serious problem. And with out a doubt a role of the federal gvt to address. Some posters are way over the top.

The last time I read the Constitution, a president had a delegated power to execute the laws enacted by Congress.
I cannot find the section where the president exercises power without a law in place.
Maybe I am reading the wrong constitution.
Help me out, folks.

Yep, I am calling this typical daily fake outrage from Rebel. This is going to be a good think for our country....well maybe not his country, but definitely ours.

Guess you are new to politics and have never heard, note understood what an executive order is. Now would be a good time to go research it. All the information you need is out there for you.

I think you are using the word dictator wrong.

Well if you think about it, there shouldn't be a need for an act of Congress to tell those backroom IT folks that they need to keep their systems secure.

And in the corporate world the backrooms do take care of their systems. They spend the money to keep their systems secure because if they didn't they would lose customers and $$$$.

Governments (local/federal) don't have that worry or drive or budget money.

The last few site hacks and hijackings I've read about were all government sites.
The US Sentencing Commission website was hacked twice. The second time an easter egg got planted that turned ussc.gov into a game of asteroids.
US Sentencing website hacked into video game "Asteroids" | ZDNet

I trust my banks websites, Amazon, iTunes and other big named sites more than I trust government sites.
Why ? The government is too big for itself; the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing; they are all strapped for spending money and usually IT is an easy cut to make (we'll upgrade the system next quarter) that doesn't effect jobs.

Government needs to clean their own house first with standards for software and data format and IT security that is consistently upgraded and maintained.

So here I sit, playing asteriods on United States Sentencing Commission while hearing that this very same government is going to provide "standards" to prevent website hacking. (Oh the sweet irony of it all )

Government is not the one that should be doing this. You've got some crackerjack techno weenies in the IT security community that could be contracted to do this. Instead we'll end up with a 9000 page bill full of bloat.
