I'm not saying that the role of the majority is to be completely disregarded...but, there are, at the end of the day, certain natural needs that come with being human. Chief among them...food, clothes, shelter, and...maybe transportation. This is what you need to be a functioning member of society, to live reasonably well... (Transportation for this one...because things are spread out...work, school, suburban homes).

I mean, if the majority makes decisions that hinder your ability to attain food, clothes, and shelter....then the wants of the majority don't come into play as much as your needs do.

My point is simply this; the majority wanting something from a person doesn't necessarily lead to that thing always being had by the majority. Sometimes other factors come into play.

In other words, what is right/real/just/fair/kind/proper/heartfelt etc has little to do with how many people think it is or isn't.

Isn't this obvious?

Agreed. That's why democracy doesn't work. The majority of people don't study politics, and yet they vote who should lead the country.

Scary.

Peace,
brian

Yeah, what we need is a small group of people (or a single person) to rule the country so the majority no longer has a say in how they are governed. Like the countries most Americans ancestors ran away from.

What you are saying is that you would rather give absolute authority to a person, or s small group of people, and take any say in how they are governed from most of the country because you don't like your taxes going to help those you feel undeserving of that help. People you can't even name individual(s) and prove why they are undeserving. I can't think of a more deranged mode of thinking without a complete break from reality, and completely un-American by taking away the rights the country was founded on.

If you want those types of government then go to Iran or China and see how wonderful it has been for the common people.

So only a minority or select group should be voting? So which group of people should only be the ones allowed to vote?

I don't know who should vote, but I see an awfully large group of people who shouldn't vote!

Peace,
brian

Who you think should vote and the Right to Vote in this country are two different things. Let me know when you think of who that select group of voters should be.

Oh yeah, maybe the Cons want to give that a try in our country. Fascism always works out for the better.

Democracy only works when you have an educated population. When government takes control over education, you get a propagandized populous who vote the way the government has programed them to vote.
