Shooting of Australian Christopher Lane sparks calls for U.S. boycott - CNN.com

Australian 23-year old student was recently shot by teenagers who were driving around because they were bored and was looking to kill somebody. This is because of Americas lack of gun control (our horrible Constitution needs to be repealed or changed! 2nd amendment suck - this is NOT 18th century anymore).

Now, Australias former deputy prime minister tells other Australians to boycott visiting America because you are 15 times more likely to be shot dead in the USA than Australia per capita per million people.

The shooting death differential is a bit misleading; the murder rate disparity between Australia and the US is 3.8. Which is to say, there are 3.8 times as many murders per capita in the US than Australia, rather than 15.

That's still pretty bad, and after a shocking incident like the Oklahoma murder, anger is a natural reaction, but facts are important.

You're thousands times more likely to die in Australia from a nasty venomous critter than get randomly shot in the USA.

Boycott Australia until they turn the Orkin man loose there.

Let's boycott Australia in return and see who comes out ahead.

I don't blame Australia for doing this. This is a bad image to be showing to the rest of the world, especially when it comes to tourism.

Australia is a big country, unless you think all of America is cowboys.

I imagine that most Australians who were interested in coming to the US still will... it will certainly embolden people who already had a grievance with the US, and it will cause people who hadn't thought much about it one way or the other to take pause and think about the situation.

I apparently offended someone... too bad. Is it wrong to not want uncontrolled immigration? Only a fool would think so.

This reminds me of an old joke -

what happens when an Australian immigrates to the US?

The general intelligence of both countries rises by a 20 IQ points.
