The only African American celebrity that might even come close to be "shunned" by black folks would be Chris Brown.

By the way, Whoopi Goldberg was a single mother on welfare and a herion addict who raised her two children to become a nurse/educator and a clergyman. As a performer she is one of only 11 people who have won an Oscar, Tony, Emmy, and Grammy award. A list that includes Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks and Sir John Gielgud. I think black folks consider her to be a pretty damned fine role model.

As for Cosby, here in Philly, he has absolutely no problem drawing standing room crowds of black folks no matter what he is doing. As for Oprah, the question is foolish to begin with and deserves no response.

The very thought of Whoppie being a role model makes me snort coffee out my nose.

Oprah is an evil 1%'er so they should hate her. She came up the hard way and on her own. I don't much care for her and hate her type of show, but she did become successful, and she did it her way. Good for her!

Cosby is an entertainer who had a show about a successful black doctor. No more, no less. He's a comedian. Which is more than one can say for Whoppie.

Leave it to low IQ'ers to think what they see publicly of these people is the real them. Hard to believe there are still people dumb enough to believe that what they see in the entertainment image is the real deal.

I think that each individul is unique and different, and will feel different about likes and dislikes. And why do we care. Who cares who they like or don't like, every day now, there is post or two or three, regarding blacks.

It gets old pretty fast.

I also don't care who white people admire, because that is their choice to choose who they like or dislike..

Of course it is ok to ask, but so many questions lately regarding blacks this or that. I imagine the older crowd like Cosby, and if they do or do not, is their business.

Conservative voter and Christitans tend to hate Oprah. For osme reason, they all think she is trying to enorce her 'lib' views on everyone which is the pot calling the kettle black. They call her anti-Christian. Back before the cause of AIDS was known, Oprah had a man with AIDS as a guest. She said to the audience 'Where is the Chrisitan love?" Another reason is she has never needed a man or kids to define her. She also doesn't want to promote ONE view. I'm not sure about Cosby and Whoppie. I guess some people are jealous of anyone more successful than them.

The success of Oprah, Bill, and others have have allowed them to rise above all the chatter about race.

[so it doesn't matter if they are friend or foe...they are green]

Don't you think its better to pose the question and begin a dialogue than to harbor false stereotypes? Stereotypes are a human thing, we all have some we believe that we probably don't even recognize until another brings them into the spotlight. Once we become aware of them we need to take them out and examine where they came from and how they were formed so we can understand how the stereotype influences our thoughts and opinions.

This thread is about as ridiculous as asking if ALL Latinos like Ricky Martin and Erik Estrada...or if ALL Whites like Madonna or Larry King. Seriously, who cares?!

Why do you care and what difference does it make?

It is simply not possible for ALL of anyone loves/likes/admires/dislikes/hates a public figure.

If you are so very interested in ALL things relating to Black Americans, then why don't you simply ask your Black American friends?
