I actually think we need more race boxes. There needs to be a South Asian and an East Asian box since these groups are nothing similar to one another. Arabs should also have their own box because for some reason they are currently classified as White. Mexcians should get a memo with their form reminding them of their Indigenous ancestry since 50-60% of them check the white box and not the mixed box.

Default Negro no longer a U.S. census classification.

US stopping use of term 'Negro' for census surveys | National Election Wire - The News Tribune

I don't understand why - after all Negro simply means black.

"African-American" will now be on there. I wonder if that applies to people from South Africa. I also wonder why I don't get a box for "European American". My ancestors were from Germany.

I didn't know they were still on there, except for in a spanish version, I never noticed it otherwise

It makes sense it's very outdated by now and it has a bad connotation

I agree, but I do wonder what triggered the change to take place now.

I have no "outrage", nor a desire to have that classification "brought back".

I am just curious as to why it was done away with.

Would you like to add something useful to the thread by attempting to answer my question?
