In his final report, the inspector general for Iraq reconstruction estimated the US wasted at least $8bn.

Stuart Bowen put the "limited positive effects" down to corruption, poor security and insufficient consultation with Iraqi authorities.

The eight-year war in Iraq cost the US about $800bn and nearly 5,000 lives.

In Learning from Iraq, a final report to the US Congress before his office ceases operations, Mr Bowen says the failures in Iraq offer lessons for reconstruction efforts elsewhere.
What a waste of money.

No wonder we cant have nice things.

Biggest mistake of the Bush administration in my opinion. I was uneasy about that war from the start even though I was a very strong Bush supporter. I knew there was something not right about it and the timing of it didn't make sense.

Well that is a good way to be. Just because you support someone doesnt mean you should blindly follow everything they do.

It was a huge mistake for which we will pay for decades.

A huge mistake. If we were going to attack, we shouldve attacked and moved on. There was no reason to stay there. As much as we'd like to think we can, you cant change people like that. They dont really want freedom as we know it, sadly so. Islamic countries dont want to be liberated.

The rebuilding was a complete waste of time, lives, resources and money.

I hope we have learned.

LOL..at least $8 billion. He better add a zero after that 8.

Didn't we build something out in the middle of the desert with no access to water/electricity ?
A monument to our own stupidity.

And the price tag to rebuild Afghanistan is even larger.

Iraq never agreed to that, nor did they ever want our help.

Now they are aligning with Iran. We did this all and the beneficiary was Iran.

Bush also said our oil companies would get contracts and bring down the price of gas.
Iraq decided to deal with the Chinese instead and there wasn't a dang thing we could do about it.
