Nice sensational thread, but what is the percentage of students that go to college compared to those that are accepted into universities? Often times the ones going to community college are the ones that didn't apply themselves in high school and are playing make up in community college.
Though nice try making this sound like 80% of the graduates don't have basic skills.
Apparently you flunked reading comprehension. I made a special note to say this in the original post:

You know what they say about people who assume, I saw that note buried in his post, but the title of the thread makes no mention of it, thus is is nothing more than a sensational thread made to create fake outrage.

It used to be common knowledge that most newspaper journalism was written at the 4.9 grade reading level to be understood by the majority of adults, which says something about the histoical reading levels within the U.S. Other popular reading material:
Time Mag- 6th grade
Harry Potter Books- 6th grade
WSJ-8th Grade
State of Union Addresses- 8th grade
NYT- 9th grade
Harvard Law Review-9th grade
Three Tragedies: Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear-11th grade
Community College reading levels vary by state and within state by county and municipality. Generally speaking, community College applicants with reading levels below 7th grade usually require remedial reading before they can take a college course.
The following link reports common books read in highschool are at the 5th grade level. Kids, like adults, read what they enjoy which does not necessarily reflect maximum reading levels.
It's not lack of money. We have more money pouring into schools than ever before.
We have more technology and smaller class sizes than ever before.
Teachers today are required to take more certifications and subject area tests to show qualification.
And each year we graduate less knowledgeable students.
65 countries do PISA assessments and the US is #36 in Math.
If we honestly want to improve education we need to start with greater student and parent accountability and responsibility for student behavior and academics. Parents who physically take care of their child, who hold them accountable for their own actions and outcomes, who read to them, and who express an interest in their education almost always have children who not just succeed at school but excel. Schools were more successful when we threw less money at them because parents did their job, including holding their child responsible for their success or failure.

You don't understand..the new teachers today are the products of the vary same education they are teaching. A 2.5 GPA gets you a teaching degree.
The ones you want teaching..the 20-30 year career teachers are retiring as soon as they can qualify.
In the 10 year period from 2001 to 2011 the number of college freshmen needing remedial classes just to get to college level increased from 30% to 40%.
Gee..that's the same period that NCLB was in effect. "Lower the bar so that No Student is Left Behind".
The more we "reform" K-12 the dumber the kids are getting.
I wonder what the stats for Race To the Top will be once we reach its ten year old birthday.
