Go do your research and post results here to either back up the OP link or debunk it.

My link backed up what the OP posted and also encompassed the nation as a whole.
OECD reports show the US is falling each year in global standing in Math/Reading.

CC's cannot refuse admission to anyone with a HS diploma or GED.
For 12 years kids are pushed to go to college regardless of their academic grades.
Don't have the luxury of time to do that kind of research on my phone while commuting, sorry.

Without knowing the percentage, this post is nothing more than a strawman opinion post.

What is the point of this thread if you don't give all the information? This is nothing more than cherry picking to make a baseless point.

Sadly most high school graduates need remedial classes when they go to college. This isn't a NYC thing this is now an American thing.

Well the title implies that high school grads don't have the basic skills to get into community college. That is a false statement because it implies all high school grads in nyc.

Knowing background information helps to understand this post better.
If you don't have the background knowledge then don't be so quick to dismiss this.

Others have been following the state of K-12 education for a while now.

You have been corrected by several posters, including me that the figure is not for all NYC HS graduates.
And yet you continue to ASSUME it is.

Oh but I do have the background knowledge and have been following US education for some time and that includes the PISA scores from OECD.

Notice, I'm not asking questions but contributing additional data to back up the OP's link.

Are you a product of NCLB K-12 education ?

The title of this thread is incorrect. It says nyc high school grads, not the nyc high school grads that apply to community college, which would be a more accurate statement. There are plenty of nyc high school grads that apply to universities that do have those skills.

Typically anything that makes such a bold claim as 80% of something is typically incorrect and a cherry picked fact to stimulate outrage.
