It is different today and you can moan and gripe all you want about how people were raised, entitlement mentalities, laziness, etc. and it still won't change the fact that it's is different today. I might make you feel better though so carry on.
I have one mid-20 child who went the traditional college route and has been working ever since. The work isn't steady or secure like the work I had at her age, and she may freelance forever, but she's supporting herself and working long hours, commuting, etc. Way more than I had to do with my 9-5 job at an insurance company a few minutes from my house. She has a bold personality and makes things happen, always has.
I have others who are still in transition (work/college) and I worry because they are more low key, timid and slow to start. Time will tell how they do but they are intelligent, likable, reliable guys so I'm optimistic.
And which one of them is spending fruitless hours on a forum whining about the past being the fault of their future?
Yep... I'll get right on that. I vote, what else you want me to do?
I don't know maybe not saddle us with a massive debt, while calling us lazy, while expecting us to pay for your retirement, while blaming the maladies of society on us. That would probably be a good first step.

Social protocol used to include something called "respecting your elder's" And honestly, I don't even think that it needs to be "respect". A little common courtesy would be nice from today's youth. I really don't enjoy being called "geezer" or getting flipped off if I drive to slow for you. A thank you if I hold the door open so you can go through first since you're in such a big hurry might be nice. Ya'll might be surprised what an older person could do to help you if you just responded the right way.
The same as with every other blasted generation.
What part of this do you refuse to understand?
That's how we all start off.
The generation accusing us old pharts of being selfish and irresponsible represented on these boards by some using "me" and "I" while wasting hours doing so.

I don't do either of those things. And I hold doors open for people whether they are male, female, young, or old.

Social protocol also used to include something about respect being earned. I did not start this generational warfare, but I am not going to sit idly by and get shafted.
BTW old people don't deserve honor merely for living to a certain age. Maybe 200 years ago when living to an old age was actually an accomplishment and evidence of wisdom, it did, but nowadays you can be pretty damn stupid and still live to be old.
