This is so sad. No warrant, and they want to do what?

Quote:
The weapon in the photo, posted by his dad on Facebook, resembles a military-style assault rifle but, his father says, is actually just a .22-caliber copy. And that, the family believes, is why child welfare case workers and police officers visited the home in Carneys Point last Friday and asked to see his guns.
So it looks scary? THAT'S the reason? Jeez, that means all bald headed, big muscled people should be arrested, because they look big and scary! Seriously, this is really going too far!

He recently posted a photograph of his son wearing camouflage and holding his new .22 rifle. The child has a New Jersey hunting license and recently passed the state’s hunter safety course.

“If you look at the picture, his finger isn’t even on the trigger – which is proper,” Nappen told Fox News. “If half of Hollywood could follow that rule we’d be thankful.”

“Someone called family services about the photo,” said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. “It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids.”
They had no right to even be there. AND, to threaten to take away his kids?

New Jersey police and Dept. of Children and Families officials raided the home of a firearms instructor and demanded to see his guns after he posted a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son holding a rifle.

The police said they have to respond to every call they get about "potential child abuse". Any excuse to get into your home and sniff around.

It is a wonder they didn't involve Homeland Security in the raid of this obvious terrorist den. Imagine a 11 year old with a gun. Horrifying.

I wonder if a warrentless search allows the searchers to be proctected from civil and criminal actions?

OPSEC. Learn it, love it. Tell no one other than your most trusted friends that you like guns. You'll thank me later in life when your beloved toy is banned and you still get to keep it while others get caught.

I don't believe he let them search. If I understood him correctly on the news this morning he asked for a warrant first which is the smart and proper thing to do.
They can discuss anything they want from the front porch, door closed unless they've got paper to open it up.
Having been at the receiving end of one of those "anonymous" reports all you've got to say is "no" when they demand to enter and if they leave to go get a warrant call an attorney at the least to keep them honest.
All things considered it'd be a cold day in hades when I'd let them A.Search the house. B. Open a locked safe. C.Record serial numbers without a judge saying so.

They need to start going after those who make false reports. There is no child abuse.

I'm glad he stood up to the LEO's. I have done the same thing and its not a easy thing to do. What a shame that we fear standing up for our own rights because of our own government. Time to wake up folks

Exactly. It's not like you're going to get a better ride to jail if you just roll over and comply without legal reason in fact YOU may just give them more to chew on by letting 'em in. Messy kitchen? Laundry on the floor? Toys strewn about? Yep, you're a poor slob of a parent and once in the system PROVE you're not.
Thankfully our little brush with them didn't go anywhere but it sure could've.
