Ipswich Middle School
So now, instead of offending the non-Honor Roll kids, they're going to torture them by making them attend the ceremony.

Honor Roll assemblies and National Honor Society inductions are like watching grass grow.

"We're not saying everyone is getting a puppy or a trophy. We're saying they're going to be there as a group as people are honored," said Principal David Fabrizio.
What the principal said is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. In one statement he says it's not fair for those who tried really hard to get honors not quite make it but then he states that he thinks it's better for them to be forced to watch these others get their awards?

That's going to make them feel better?

The local paper?

School nixes honors night - too 'devastating' for those not honored » Latest News » EagleTribune.com, North Andover, MA

Looks to me like the principal decided to spin it in another direction once it became news.
Reading between the lines here, sounds like a few parents got miffed when the principal cancelled
" Parent Validation" night and instead chose to acknowledge the accomplishments amongst their peers at the end of the season. The names of the students were given to the local press as is customary back in December.

I've never heard of "Honors Night". Is it common? Most schools have awards at a general school assembly as the principal is proposing.

Common somewhat. A lot of schools will have them as an athletic banquet and then an awards night another time for everything else. A lot of the time they're just for the graduating seniors.

Oh, look what all the liberals are doing again! ......LOL...............DUHHHHHHHHHHHH

Meanwhile, the party that FOX promotes is driving the effort to cut these saps Social Security......LOL

But having something special just for them acknowledges that they went above and beyond.
It recognizes their hard work.

One of the middle schools I work at has an afternoon movie and popcorn for the kids that make the honor roll. I usually stay with the ones that moan and groan over it and tell them..the only thing stopping them from being at the movie is themselves so work hard so you can go to that movie next report card.
There's not much they can say about that.
