Why do some people claim that the 2nd Amendment only protects our right to own Muskets?
Well, can you actually name a responsible person who believes that? I can't think of any representative or judge who has adopted such idiotic reasoning.
True, if you look around on the internet, you could probably find some who like to poke fun at Justice Scalia by claiming that, according to his legal philosophy, the Framers 'original intent' was that people only own muskets, read from broadsheets, have only 13 States recognized, etc. However, one should not confuse satire or such humor with being a real point of view.
Thankfully, the Supreme Court has been good enough to recognize that 'speech', as one instance, can cover a broad spectrum, undreamed of by the Framers.
Anyway, I should be interested to read your views on who holds such views, so we may all hold them up to ridicule.
Only leftist liberal fools believe this. They cry freedom and liberty for everything else, every form of communication.
If 2A only protects muskets, 1A only protects newspapers, books and wall posters. Those were pretty much the forms of printed media at the time. Magazines maybe?
There are several counties in Socal that have modern laws on the books restricting the caliber of muskets/matchlocks.
