White supremacists under scrutiny in Texas slayings

But when, in 2009, the Department of Homeland Security reported that white supremacy is the US’s biggest threat for domestic terror, it was met with harsh criticism. Conservatives blasted the department for defining terror threats too broadly, instead of focusing on potential Islamic terrorists. Then-House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) was one of those who berated DHS, saying that they weren’t focusing on the real threats the US faces:

The report was titled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” and it named white supremacists, radical anti-abortionists, and a few “disgruntled veterans” as most susceptible to recruitment by extremist groups, or to harboring resentment that may lead to domestic terrorism. DHS stressed that, during recessions, these threats go up, and law enforcement should be on the lookout for such extremism:

It's proven to be extremely true. We've had the Holocaust Museum shooting in 2009, the murder of Dr. George Tiller and the Sikh temple shooting last year all acts of domestic terriorism

The problem is labeling something like this terrorism but not the hundreds of murders committed by inner city gangs.

It's terrorism when a prosecutor gets killed but not a baby in a stroller?

So how many of these shooting were from returning vets, and TEA party types? Because that was what DHS was warning us about.

(U//FOUO) The possible passage of new restri ctions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challeng es reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terr orist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.

* (U) Right-wing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment

DHS offers up the following: "The North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office, the media arm of the Earth Liberation front (ELF), published the following guidance for activists: 'By inflicting as much economic damage as possible, the ELF can allow a given entity to decide it is in their [sic] best economic interest to stop destroying life for the sake of profit.'"

And, also in support of its thesis, the earlier report documents several specific actions committed by liberal organizations that included the deletion of user accounts and flooding a company's servers with E-mails.

"On 13 July 2007, an animal rights extremist hacked into a U.S. company's computer system and deleted more than 300 associates' user accounts. To restore the accounts, the perpetrator demanded that the company sell its shares in a corporation that conducts tests using animal subjects," the report says.

There's a difference. Both are heinous crimes, but the motivations are different. Thugs and criminals committing crimes are more random and hard to stop occurrences that don't threaten or impact the larger society. Groups or individuals of whatever political stripe committing crimes to influence or actually cause terror are acts of terrorism.

Actually, they don't. Two people involved in an altercation about something where one person gets killed doesn't affect society as much as groups or individuals who commit acts of terrorism to persuade or affect the general public.

Random acts of violence compared to acts of terrorism are two different things. For those involved or connected to the said acts of random violence that's not much of a condolence, but there are big differences.

Any act with an attempt to maim, hurt, or kill an innocent person is a terrorist act, regardless!!!!! Political or otherwise!!! So yeah, in my world that armed robber that may be breaking into your home, or knocking over a seven eleven, holding up an elderly person, or is trying to rape someone, to me is committing a terrorist act. It may sound like I'm a bit of a simpleton.... but when you think about it.....

So knocking over a seven eleven and 9/11 are basically the same thing?

Exactly, of course the OP won't pay attention to this.
