You obviously do not fully understand what you are typing about. If you lost a job in September 2008 that paid lets say 16,000 a year and you found a new one in September 2009 that only pays lets say 11,000 dollars. then you are technically in poverty, but you have a job where as a 6 months ago you didnt.

For the Senate, the Democrats had the majority in 1951-52, 1957-1980, 1987-1994, 2009-10.
Republicans had the majority, 1981-86, 1995-2000, 2003-06.

Between 1953-56, 2001-02, 2007-08, neither party had the majority in the Senate.

House of Representatives the Democrats have been the majority for about 46 of the last 60 years since 1950.
The Senate has been controlled by the Democrats for about 40 of those 60 years.
The Democrats have controlled at least one or the other of the 2 branches over 50 of the 60 years.

Sorry you dont like the facts, but its not my job to sugar coat them so you dont whine about them.

Your original comment said Democrats controlled congress for 75% of the time. Your response proved your original comment was false.

what you should have said was that democrats controlled congress most of the time, then you would be right.

I'm not. Your problem is that you're simply livid because your party and its ideology has been the cause of this country's downfall, and we're never going to let you forget it. Thanks to you and your party's ideology, we currently live in a plutocracy, the middle class is diminishing by leaps and bounds as the Republican Revolution gained momentum over the 30+ years of it - the Contract On America.

To Republicans, democracy is a filthy word, a word that scares the hell out of them, a dirty word that promises freedom to all, rather than freedom to some, and which system must be crushed at all costs.

A sample of Republican ideology that was put into effect and brought our country to its knees:

Deregulation
(It impoverished our country by destroying small businesses, is to blame for the current financial crisis as well as others - one under Ronald Reagan)

Unaffordable tax reduction to the rich
(A form of wealth redistribution, had the effect of a situation requiring a Chapter 11 bankruptcy)

Destruction of unions
(To put the power of the worker squarely in the hands of corporations)

Defense must be increased
(Had the effect of a situation requiring a Chapter 11 bankruptcy)

Unaffordable wars must be fought
(Had the effect of a situation requiring a Chapter 11 bankruptcy)

Then, a sample of Republican propaganda and lies:

The poor are the primary or sole cause of our financial crisis - The poor are lazy and a drain on our system.

Liberals caused this financial crisis by refusing to further deregulate, further provide tax reductions to the rich, further destroy unions, and criticizing Republicans.

We didn't deregulate enough, reduce the taxes of the rich enough, destroy unions enough. If we had the economy would be better.

You know... if it MATTERED, who was in control of what or whatever in Congress... we would have a functioning country, because... contrary to RWNJ popular opinion, Barack Hussein Obama is one capable hombre and could do a lot to bring this country in line with prevailing democratic socialist mores in some of the most liveable, most economically competitive, hands down world class best places to live on this planet. Republicans are no strangers to the filibuster and the practice has been exercised to vertigo inducing amounts during the Obama administration. I have nothing but contempt for Conservatives that hide behind talking point rhetoric when the debate starts to get away from them. Saritaschihuahua is kicking RWNJ ***** and taking names, and in typical RWNJ fashion, the response is to quote talking points. Like America was on some kind of record roll until Obama took office... .. this stuff simply cannot be made up... ... I mean... IF the o.p.'s premise is correct and Obama has, in fact, plunged millions of American's into poverty... its still an improvement!! Millions of American's agree with me... don't take my word for it. Who is in the White House now for a second term? Is it Mitt Romney who was running on a message of reform towards RWNJ austerity and further wealth shift towards the already well off? Do we need to keep this thead going? I've got more and I'm guessing so do my liberal colleagues.

Actually thats not necessarily so because the definition of poverty fell under Obama for the first time in decades as well. Its not a static figure

Median income falls while poverty rate edged lower - Sep. 12, 2012

Which makes sense. The threshold for poverty would naturally decline as wages decline.

Thats not at all what we were discussing, which is WHO had the power, not what they did.. So now that you've been proven wrong, you want to now babble nonsense about what people claim, instead of what people did.

Thats what they said would happen when Clinton cut welfare, but yet the opposite took place. Why do you think that is? Could it be because people went out and got jobs, and thus increased the demand for wages and benefits, or was that just a fluke?

Like the Nazis, who slowly took over because of their excellence in propagating some fabulous propaganda, Republicans had the power, had the propaganda, had the money, had the churches, had everything, and they royally f'd up this nation with lies, and they're still doing it, still lying, still wanting to institute an authoritarian plutocracy, and this nation is currently in serious trouble. Meanwhile, the majority are highly uneducated except for propaganda (a boon to the Republicans, for whom public truth means they'll never be elected again).
