I clicked on to your thread thinking that this was going to be one of those threads that had negative black history, like some Northern blacks who were Tories to the British during the Revolution. But it turns out that it really is about missing black history. That's kind of refreshing, in a way, given how this forum usually runs.
I was struck that the guy in the video was a white guy, a white guy speaking on black history from the Black History museum. It doesn't seem quite right. But you know, given some thought, even that is refreshing. It might have been even more refreshing if the person where an Asian woman. Wow, just think of it; integration at its finest.

Not to mention that the whole history of the revolution as told in popular culture is often edited. That about 25 percent were loyalists and 25 percent were revolutionaries and a whopping half had no side is often ignored too. They got in the way of both sides. The burning of the town in the movie The Patriot is actually very factual, as in the contryside it was often civilian vrs civilian and military on civilian violence. Farm and house burnings of those who weren't your side were common. Consider that many Tory's left for Quebec for good reason. We don't like it to be portrayed as a messy guerillla war between citizens like most revolutions but for many it was. Look at any period of American history or pre revolutionary history and you find there are large gaps that are missing as we like the fairy tale so much.
We should begin reading books of the time and books which recognize and dismiss the fairly tale. It was in part British techniques which pushed up that 25 percent and led to a successful revolution.

Okay, this is my fault. Back in the Revolutionary days there was an early vocal be-bop group called the Tories, who were black. They were obviously well ahead of their time but they are negatively condemned in history for being continually off-key. Supposedly a town sheriff became so annoyed by the Tories off-key singing that he demanded that they speak their words rather than sing them. For that reason some music historians have subsequently pronounced the Tories as the first rappers, although that has never been confirmed.
