I came to the US as a foreign student. I never had even the slightest concern over guns.

The rest of the world absolutely has that image of America. We host an exchange student every couple of years, and that's one of the first questions parents usually ask us before their child comes to live with us--if it's safe (in Nebraska no less). All the mass shootings in recent years are probably the biggest issue, plus the gang violence in big cities.

Most foreigners don't. This is just Kerry being the moron that he is. I've never met a foreigner that was scared of being here because of guns. So many of them seem all to eager to come and stay here.

From the article:
Figures have shown international study is down markedly among Japanese students to all destinations, including the United States. Experts have attributed the decline to Japan's low birthrate, the expense of foreign study in a poor economy, and a desire among Japanese young people to remain at home rather than venture to other countries.

From the article:
and (Kerry) said the country was safer "where people are not running around with guns"

American empty suit political lap-dog, pushing an anti-American agenda.

After reviewing the linked material in the OP, it eems to me the Secretary of State's comments are are accurate. Sometimes, the truth hurts (depending upon one's point of view).

Does the media enhance this image? Probably. But I don't fault Kerry here.
I find it plausible.

But I do not care that foreign students are afraid of guns.

I agree, if they dont like private citizens owning firearms, and prefer only government and cops having firearms, then they can feel free to leave the USA anytime.

Out of a total 582 homicides in Japan in 2008, 11 were by guns.

I wonder why they never include the suicide numbers in japans death rate like they do here in the USA.

I know many immigrants that are thrilled to own weapons and to be able to hunt. Something they say is rather difficult in the old Country.

The millions of Mexicans sneaking across the border don't seem to be too terrified.
