This is an example of Simpson's paradox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

If you look at larger aggregated geographic areas, such as states (and maybe counties, haven't seen the data but I'll take your word on it) then more dependent areas tend to vote Republican. If you look at individuals however, more dependent individuals tend to vote for Democrats.

It's an interesting example of Simpson's paradox at work. One has to wonder why this phenomenon is occurring here. My theory is the disgust of people who put in a hard days work and then see their neighbors milking the system and doing as well or better than them is what is behind it, but that's just based on personal experience of swinging hard to the right when I had to deal with interacting with people on welfare on the job while underemployed who clearly had a better lifestyle than I could afford on my income (really gets under the skin and rankles); and of course without any data it's just a theory/guess.

Alot of people complain about this and yes, they are truly disgusted.

They are quite pleased? ROTFLMAO your not referring to the original article right?

From my northern view of America- I was stunned when Bush the spoiled little brat was voted in for a second term.. Then when you voted in Obama - It was interesting till the novelty wore away...buyers remorse should have set in during his first tenure. But it seems Americans are dreamers and not pragmatic nor do they trust their own senses....When Obama was voted in for a second term I was more than stunned...I lost all respect for the left...who would rather have someone whisper sweet nothings in their ear then truly lead a nation. It's strange...It's like a woman who does not care if she is neglected and materially ignored as long as the man tells her exactly what she wants to hear.

One person wrote that hope is the hook used to reel them in. It's like a marketing expert who runs a poll to find out what people want then lets out a press release that promises to fulfill that hope. Find out what they want to hear and tell them that is what you will give them....let time pass and they forget and then you move on to the new promise - then repeat the process. By the time four years pass they have forgotten everything.

We live in a communist country now?

Last I checked both Democrats and Republicans are American just like Independents and Moderates are.

Or did I miss something?

It seems that so many of your posts never seem to quite reach puberty. I wonder why.
Last I checked running a company does not translate to running a country.

Romney couldn't and wouldn't connect with the common American, the middle-class that he desperately needed.

You're right, Obama isn't good enough to carry Romney's water...he's above and beyond that menial labor. And that's coming from a guy who isn't too fond of Obama either, but I'll gladly take him over Mr. Pancake any day of the week, month, or year.

I compared what the two stood for and found that Romney's plan was atrocious and terrible while Obama, far from perfect, had something I could actually agree with.

Less Government unless when it comes to your guns.

Not that has anything to do with the topic at hand, but that was the appropriate response.

Anyway, Obama will do a far better job than Romney ever could have done. Maybe if he runs again in 2016 he might win this time?

Do your civil duty then and go vote.
