Bill Maher doesn't understand the cons of a democracy. I usually agree with him, but he clearly doesn't have a grasp on what a bicameral system entails.

I'm not sure this author knows what a "rant" is.

Maher is a tool. One vote doesn't go his way and he is crying like a baby that the constitution needs to be eliminated.

Actually, no. Watch the video. He said the Constitution needs to be amended, not eliminated.

So it needs to be "amended" to eliminate all the parts he doesn't like, included the actual foundation of the 3 branches of government. Got it.

No, you don't.

OP, thanks for the clip.

California, population 38 million, has the same voice as Wyoming in the Senate. That has always PO'd Maher, he has said this before.

And the filibuster is a tool that has been egregiously abused by the GOP.

The Framers gave us at least two things that bear on this discussion.

One is the First Amendment's freedom of speech. So he certainly has the right to suggest anything he wants about anything he doesn't like.

Oh my! Will you look at that? Freedom of speech wasn't actually even in the original Constitution at all. It was added by an Amendment!

That's the second thing they gave us. Or more accurately, the first... Article V. The ability to amend the Constitution. I suspect that they did not intend for us to amend the things we liked about it.

Just saying.

And then you have the house based on population. It is checks and balances. It is what this nation is founded on. I guess you missed us history class in high school.

and that is because the senate was designed initially to be the representatives of the states and NOT the people. that is what the house of representatives is for.

and the democrats as well. stop being partisan when it comes to senate rules. the filibuster is there so that the voice of the minority is heard as loudly as the majority.

We all know about "The Great Compromise."

Maher is within his rights to suggest that it has outlived its usefulness.
