Where are the stats on the number of children also receiving free school breakfasts and lunches during the school year? Also where are the stats on the number of children who receive free lunches at churches, community centers, public pools etc. on an organized grant-funded-basis throughout the summer when school is out?
Those wanting to divert the conversation and speak to the issue of corporate welfare have valid points, that they should raise when they start another thread.
What is not being focused on here is the fact that people are living well on welfare. They are scamming the system - Some work, some steal, some deal drugs.
And it's the benefits they get by putting their kids on Medicaid, claiming they have autism, ADD or whatever....and these people milk the system.
I drive a handicapped friend to the store twice a month. When we get to the mall in the evening, there is not one handicapped spot...and the people with their handicapped tags are jumping out of their $40,000 SUVs and vans - brand new...and everyone is jumping for joy, not one is even limping.
And yes, they are buying damned good food in the supermarket.
How about the housing allowances (such as section 8, or public housing) - add that to the numbers.
People truly do need help...but we have too many people ripping off the system.
The illegal immigrants have the various non-profit groups that they go to directly, and they guide them right through the system. And don't tell me these groups exist for anything else....Like what?...to get jobs for illegals?...
This group of illegals we now have in this country are to a good part made up of scammers...There are plenty that do want to work - But hell!....who turns down something for nothing, when they are told it's their rights.
Let's face it, in the ghettos we have people that are 3rd generation welfare (that's not 5 years...)...and you have the same in West Virginia...Did many of you see the show about the Whites (family) of West Virginia...they seemed be to doing well with their "crazy" checks.
Let's not diminish the numbers by drawing lines between state benefits and federal benefits....it comes down to the same thing - people living off of the taxpayers. Call it welfare, public dole or whatever...it's all part of the single problem, isn't it.
And there's jobs out there...Hell what are the illegals doing here?...And don't give me the Bulls*** about below minimum wages - Any business person will pay a good worker their value. And I knew illegals getting $12 - $15 per hour...Because they were worth it.
Ha. Work in an inner city hospital. See the "poor", on Medicaid....a woman with the latest cell phone, most expensive running shoes, hair done, nails done, asking where she can go out and smoke....did I forget to mention the Louis Vuitton bag and full length leather coat?

They are leaving out one thing...the people working off the books - the underground economy which is vast in this country. And these scammers are being counted as living in poverty by these statistics.
And I'll repeat again...the people scamming the system are pimping, dealing, bookies, handymen, landscapers....on and on and on...Even the mobsters are scamming the welfare system....How about all the vending machines you see?...How does the government confirm how much income they are making for the owners?...Do you see calculators attached to them?...And how many vending machines do you see on a given day?
NPR, Pew, the government agencies...and all the other analytical sources are just out of touch with reality...Counting what you see is one thing...But you've got to learn to see every thing that should be counted.
