GOP donors push state lawmakers to legalize gay marriage - U.S. News

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A national group of prominent GOP donors that supports gay marriage is pouring new money into lobbying efforts to get Republican lawmakers to vote to make it legal.

American Unity PAC was formed last year to lend financial support to Republicans who bucked the party's longstanding opposition to gay marriage. Its founders are launching a new lobbying organization, American Unity Fund, and already have spent more than $250,000 in Minnesota, where the Legislature could vote on the issue as early as next week.

The group has spent $500,000 on lobbying since last month, including efforts in Rhode Island, Delaware, Indiana, West Virginia and Utah.

Billionaire hedge fund manager and Republican donor Paul Singer launched American Unity PAC. The lobbying effort is the next phase as the push for gay marriage spreads to more states, spokesman Jeff Cook-McCormac told The Associated Press.
"What you have is this network of influential Republicans who really want to see the party embrace the freedom to marry, and believe it's not only the right thing for the country but also good politics," Cook-McCormac said.

I think it is a shame the GOP is letting down the people who voted for them based on social issues.

I don't vote because of social issues. Just sick and tired of the constant pushing of an agenda. It's really getting old and tiring.

Wait, so now you dont think they should push forward gay marriage? Or are you just upset that Democrats dont have a lock and key on the issue?

Maybe you don't, but many do.

No, I think they should have stood by their principles. If GOP gives up defending traditional values, then you can pretty much kiss them good-bue. Dems do not even pretend to oppose gay marriage.

Don't you think you should focus on issues that are more important such as the false notion that we need immigration reform? We are about to obtain as many as 35 million illegals that will have a greater effect on this country than any issue since the Civil War, and you're worried about same sex married.

We have same sex marriage in New England and it was not changed anything; it has become a non-issue. If you are so concerned about your traditional values, work to end divorce, as well as curbing the amount of babies born out of wed lock.
