The City's safe room rebate program is still "on hold", with not a lot changed from our update of last May.
Our county-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan still has not been approved by the State and FEMA. There were changes to the Federal requirements for this plan that occurred while our contractor was writing the document; he has had to rewrite it. We've found that the FEMA requirements and their interpretations seem to be a constantly moving target, more so with the new wrinkles. We're still working out various wording changes with the State reviewers and hope to submit the final document in March.
They started working on this safe room grant project in Oct. 2011. The red tape and constantly changing standards of FEMA delayed the projects and now May 2013, we see the devastating consequences.
The project would have added 800 more safe rooms to Moore.
There was never any obstacle for the city or the state or private companies to fund their own safe rooms in these schools.
They delay was in having it paid for by the federal government.
But, I thought conservatives believe that the local governments should run their own affairs, should fund the things the way they see fit?
Conservatives are complaining that Federal money wasn't spent on a local issue?
Seems...hypocritical.
On some fronts y'all complain that Federal money is spent, then complain that it wasn't spent fast enough?
Why should New Englanders fund tornado safe rooms in Oklahoma, that is, from a Federalist or conservative point of view?
Moore was going to get a $2 million dollar grant.
Obama sent $250 million to Egypt this year.
$2 million is most likely less than Sasha and Malia's great spring break adventure. But as we learned from the sequester, Obama doesn't care about anyone else's kids.

Well the media has been running around salivating over who to blame for this tornado since it hit. Now they have their culprit. I just posted a link to FEMA about the block grants available earlier on the other thread. Now it appears they were trying to get one and big bro bottles it up with their usual incompetence.
