I keep hearing that poor Obama has had to deal with so many more filibusters, but when asked for specifics, I only get evidence of cloture. Cloture simply limits debate whether or not a filibuster is happening or even threatened.
Cloture has been used many times over the past 4.5 years with no threat of a filibuster. Sometimes, debate is limited to save time or because the majority simply wants to silence the minority from making good sound bites for the media.
Fact is, cloture was used when the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority before Kennedy died. Cloture has been used when a bill passed with 60 or more votes (thus in theory a filibuster couldn't even be threatened) and most of the time cloture is used no filibuster was used or even threatened.
Obama supporters need to stop using cloture as evidence of filibusters and thus as an excuse for Obama's job performance.

Today no filibuster, 68 votes for it (enough to beat a filibuster), but the Democrats invoked cloture to stop debate and vote....now the Dem posters and MSNBC will falsely count this cloture as evidence of GOP filibustering to explain Obama's poor performance.
Everytime you ask Obama supporters for evidence of record filibusters they cite clotures, which is misleading as most clotures have occurred with no filibusters or threat of a filibuster....simply Democrats under Obama do not like debate, they want you to vote for it to know what is in the bill.

Obama supporters falsely talk of countless filibusters to explain the ineptness of Obama's presidency -- and then when you ask them for evidence they cite clotures. This is complete nonsense. The majority of clotures used were simply to end debate with no filibuster or even threat of filibustering. Harry Reid (D) has used clotures numerous times when he has 60+ votes, hence a filibuster was not even a possibility. Harry Reid used cloture when the Democrats had 60 Senate seats - hence a Democrat would have to defect for a filibuster to happen. Harry Reid has used cloture when no filibusters occurred or even were threatened. Cloture historically has been used on votes that had ZERO in opposition. Cloture simply ends discussion, while people for or against still wanted to speak. Obama supporters point to the broad field of all clotures as proof of a vast filibuster assault causing Obama's ineptness. This is a lie.
