Electricity Prices Highest on Record for May | CNS News

The price of electricity in the United States for May was 13.1 cents per kilowatt hour (KWH), which is the highest it has been on record for that month, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which tracks the price going all the way back to 1984.

Thirteen cents per KWH is the highest price for the month of May in 29 years, according to the BLS numbers.

These price data come at a time when President Barack Obama has announced a “new national climate action plan” to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to combat alleged man-made global warming and spend more federal money on “clean energy” projects. The coal industry, which produces about 45% of the electricity in America is expected to be the hardest hit by the federal regulations, raising its costs and the cost of electricity for consumers. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said that Obama’s plan is “a war on America” because the regulatory burden and costs will severely damage the U.S. coal industry.

Energy costs soaring, unemployment and economic grow in the toilet, and what do we see, Obama starting his war on coal, his war on CO2, and giving away $7 billion to other countries to improve their energy production.

Interesting. So in 1984 an electric kilowatt hit 13.1 cents, and now it is that price again (in some areas).

I wonder why it was so high in 1984?

Expanding the role of federal government into the energy sector under the auspices of going green isnt going to come cheap.

So if energy prices go up, it's Obama's fault, but if it goes down it's not Obama's fault?

Nope- either way he enacts policies which can effect electricity and gasoline prices, for better or worse.

One simply needs to look at gas prices and electricity prices in the Bush administration. Only a fool would believe that waging a war on coal (which accounts for the lion's share of electricity in the US) and banning drilling on federal land would LOWER energy costs. That "fool" would be a liberal.

Thankfully, drilling on private lands, INSPITE OF OBAMA, has helped to increase oil production, although it has not achieved 1980s levels.

Depends on why they go up or down.
What do you see him doing?

The price of oil is up because of the unrest in Egypt possibly disrupting the flow of oil through the Suez Canal.

No relationship to the price of electricity.

Reagan was President in 1984, but it was Obama's fault

Obama went into a time machine and messed with the oil prices.
