Cool. The pope, and other religious leaders can decide what marriage is in relation to their religious beliefs. They do not get to decide the law of this country.

True but their words inspire the actions of millions in this country who do decide the laws of the country. This is a good reaffirmation to fight your unholy agenda.

Funnily enough, two of the most catholic countries in Europe - Spain and Portugal - as well as some very heavily Catholic Latin American countries known to be more advanced than their neighbors, such as Argentina (where ole' Popey boy is from) and Uruguay - already have gay marriage.


Looks like per usual the ones that listen to the Pope the most are the desperate and uneducated. The almost universal inverse relationship between religiosity and development continues.

The Roman Catholic Church, chastened because of the world wide scandal involving sexual abuse by priests on children, has no moral authority to pontificate (pun intended) on the marriage equality that same sex couples desire.

No moral authority whatsoever.

Besides, civil marriage is a civil right.

Did you forget that we have a constitution in this country?
The people can not vote away the civil rights of other citizens.

Our constitution trumps your bible when it comes to the laws in this country.

AND, it's the never-ending saga of a bunch of single men, who have no sex, no family, no marriage whatsoever telling other people how to live, and women how to raise their children and control their bodies.

We in the Boston area have some experience with the Catholic Church leadership's idea of "love".

Regardless, it isn't surprising to see people who personally benefit from reactionary oppression of the masses doubling-down on their discredited corruption. What our nation's founders thought of the Catholic Church 250 years ago still applies:
