It makes life easier and more comfortable. They've done studies on happiness (I didn't look for them, but you could probably google and find them) and found that once people reach a base standard of living where their needs are met and they don't have to worry, more money doesn't make most people significantly happier--you just have nicer toys and better vacations.
EDIT--someone posted the study while I was typing.
If money could buy happiness, people would want more of it. Given that there's virtually unlimited money out there (in the US), and the majority don't want more of it, it doesn't seem to be something that people value. I would imagine the currency used for happiness would be something that people value.
I don't think "happiness" or a "better life" is for sale, or can be bought, begged or borrowed.
I've known many people that think "someone" or "something" will provide the elusive "Happiness".
That never works - Happiness and "better" life is within us all, it's never going to be dependent on "things" OR on other people. I think we all know people like that ...... they are the "IF" crowd. "IF" I just had this/that/or the other - I could be "happy". They will never find "happy", because they are looking in all the wrong places.
