Is this overkill? I mean, seriously. Luckily he wasn't charged as he could have faced a 1st degree misdemeanor with 3 years probation and a $2,500 fine. It is difficult to discuss something when you have just one side of the story. We certainly have the father's side of the story. However, it may be like the old "But officer, I only have had two beers" excuse by the weaving drunk driver.
For all we know, the father was observed providing one or more beers to his fifteen year old son.
Idiotic. In spite of the basic stupidity of the beer cops, I don't believe you can be charged for providing alcohol to your own child, even if they are under the legal age to purchase alcohol. That may depend on the state, though.
Of course a 15 year old can get an abortion or "morning after" pills without dad around. That is liberal logic.
