Haole: A word used mainly in Hawaii to describe a white person.
This racist slurs have been around since i can remember. In fact, going back 40 years, the last day of school was beat up haole day…and the haole’s to be beat up were caucasian kids that live here.

Do we know anyone that lived there?
I thought haole was used to describe an outsider no matter their color but I could be wrong. Anyway I have two white friends who lived in Hawaii for a good five years and nothing ever happened to them. They left with many, many friends.
I went to a elementry school for 5 months while waiting for escrow to close, on the last day of school everybody was running to something...it was the end of school rumble with the other elementy right down the street...
It was a kid thing not a racial thing. Kids are dumb...most grow out of it...some will never.

I know plenty of Hawaiians and find that most I know are not racist against white folk (in my presence). I've been to Hawaii and no one I meet showed any signs of this racism you mention. They were very polite and helpful to everyone. Maybe living there is a little different but my experience didn't show any concerns for something like this...
I'm sure we earned any dislike native Hawaiians have for us. I'd bet that the pineapple barons that took the place over were not particularly nice guys.
I, in no way, speak for all or any native Hawai'ians, but my preception is that westreners have not assimulated to the ilands' culture. Laid back surfer dude...is not native Hawai'in culture.
Many native Hawai'ins work hard to keep their culture alive and relavent to their youth. Is there resentment for the Westrenization of the Island? I...would think so.
Way off subject...
have you all seen Jake Shimabukuro play the Ukelele?

That guy is an amazing talent. First saw him perform several years ago.
