Bankers had been lobbying Congress since the 80's to repeal portions of GS.
Greenspan gave the green light to the merger of Citibank and Travelers based on his interpretation of GS. Then he went to work on Congress.
Parts of GS were repealed by the Gramm- Leach-Bliley Act. The three co-sponsors were Republican reps/senator. The banking lobby wrote it.
Most of the house and senate approved it and Clinton signed it.
And once again...
#1 Clinton's administration asked for such a law years beforehand.
#2 Clinton edited the law.
#3 Clinton rallied Democrats to vote for it.
#4 Clinton said he veto it if the GOP tried to stop the government from pressuring companies to lend to financially risky people, because most of them were minorities and that was unfair.
#5 Clinton was "proud" to sign it into law.
Clinton was an active participant in the repeal of Glass-Stegall and deserves blame.
Don't tell lies, don't be partisan to the point where you turn your brain off.
I thought most of these things were pretty well-known. Anyway, Liberal media bias isn't restricted to only the news. It saturates our pop culture -- our TV, our movies, our books, because the creative people in these industries are almost exclusively Liberal.
Journalists are overwhelmingly Liberal (Journolist anyone?). You know, the people who shape and report our news. Actors, writers, producers and directors are almost exclusively Liberal. Coming out as a Conservative in Hollywood gets you essentially blacklisted unless you're entrenched like Clint Eastwood. Also, most musicians are Liberal and given way more voice than they deserve (Jay-Z, Gaga, etc.)
Most newspapers are solidly left-leaning. Most news networks are far more critical of Republicans than Democrats. MSNBC is more partisan than Fox and is 85% Liberal opinion shows. Fox is undoubtably biased as well, but there's an entire staff at Media Matters combing through every word spoken on Fox looking for any inconsistency they can find to prove that "Fox Lies". Our television is dominated by left-leaning show like The Daily Show, Colbert, everything on HBO, The View, Family Guy, Modern Family, etc, etc, etc. If a character on Law & Order was identified as a Conservative or Christian, it was because they needed an absurd caricature of a hateful or dangerous right-winger.
Then there's this summer's blockbuster movies of which many had Liberal messages in them, like environmentalism, anti-business, class warfare, and the most laughable -- domestic right-wing terrorism. The one summer movie that possibly had a Conservative tone was reviewed by Salon as Right-wing, woman-hating and really scary.
Libs love to incessantly parrot "Reality has a well-known Liberal bias." The thing is, it's not reality but our culture that has a well-known Liberal bias. Liberals dominate our entertainment and news and have an undeniable influence on our culture, but this "reality" is no more real than Pandora, Springfield or any of the other make-believe worlds these people live in. Hollywood itself is make-believe world, where these people are rich, treated like royalty and surrounded by boot-licking yes men who never challenge their opinions or beliefs. It's their version of reality presented through the lens of a solidly left-leaning media.
There is an undeniable bias that has been confirmed even by left-wingers in the industry. If you can't see the bias, you've don't honestly know where the center is.
The conservative fantasy of a liberal media that is against them just shows how insane beliefs are now mainstream in the conservative party.
Again, the media's purpose is not to be political adversaries of the conservatives. So the idea that all the tv reporters and all the tv commentators, and all the tv producers, and all the tv writers, all the tv news network heads, all the newspaper reporters, all the news paper editors, all the newspaper columnists, all the newspaper publishers and owners, all the magazine reporters, all the magazine editors, all the magazine columnists, and all the magazine publishers and owners are against conservatives makes no sense in any shape way or form.
Again the fact that conservatives belief this insanity is proof of just how far off the rails they have gone.

If you had any degree of intellectual honesty with yourself, you would realize that your assertions patently incorrect. The media should be objective in all things. They should report the good, the bad, and the ugly. Currently, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and most obviously MSNBC have been openly carrying water for the Democrats. They bury anything critical of the current administration and only mention blunders in passing where this was regular content during the Bush 43 administration. CNN is far and away the most objective of the three. How many times in recent memory have major network news outlets rushed to liberal prophecy fulfilling judgements ahead of facts in recent years? According to the "non-biased" media, the suspects in both the Gabrielle Giffords shooting incident, and the Aurora, CO theater shooting were both aligned with the tea party. In both cases the news outlets were proven completely wrong. How about Dan Rather with his false and incorrect attacks? Where is he these days? The main issue is liberals are not happy with just the major news outlets acting as wholesale partners in their campaigns, they want all opposition silenced. I must insert the caveat here that I think Rush Limbaugh is a complete buffoon. However, the liberal powers that be have been after him since the Clinton administration. Targeting advertisers and blowing the dust off of the "Fairness Doctrine" any time they see his influence getting to levels they find unacceptable. The Fairness Doctrine alone should be enough to prove to any objective person capable of critical thinking that there is a desire among the left to control the news cycle.

See this is the insanity that is conservative belief. They believe that the whole media is out to get them. LOLOL.
One cannot debate insane beliefs. The human mind can twist itself in knots to believe anything.
There is no liberal media. The media's purpose is not to be against conservatives. So the likelihood that the whole media would be against conservatives is a fiction invented by conservatives to explain why their ideas look so bad under media scrutiny.
Its not that their ideas and policies are crap and don't hold up, but that all of those reporters and their producers and their bosses are against them. LOLOLOL
Talk about playing the victim. No one plays the victim more than conservatives who claim they are under attack from nearly every segment of American society, from the media to pop culture/hollywood, to public schools, to nation's top universities, to climate scientists, to silicon valley, to the nation's largest cities, conservatives believe all of those institutions are out to get them. LOLOLOLOL
What legislation replaced Glass Steagell and who wrote it ?????

I should have been more clear. I was talking about Dodd Frank. that is the law of the land and it seriously does not really do what ought to be done.
I would also point outthat Mom above is right. the G-L-B Act was a bipartisian bill approved by wide majorites and supported/signed by Clinton. (I agree it was bad law).
my point is the linked article is just wrong. The law of the land TODAY is a law created/written/passed/signed by liberals with little realy conservative support.
