We have civil war in Syria, the M B takeover of Egypt then their overthrow, Al Qaeda breaking thousands of terrorists in many countries out of prison and the US selling weapons to Al Qaeda. Obama and the Dems should be called the US branch of Middle East Terrorism.
Now explain what you would have done if you were in charge.
As soon as it was clear the brotherhood democratic means to gain control in order to put forward an extremists militant Islamic state, I would have come out against it.
As soon as the military ousted Morsi, I would have stood up for the military and began talking about true democracy and aiding the military and the real forces for modernity and democracy in getting Egypt established as a real beacon of freedom.
I would be clear that what we are seeing from the Brotherhood is terrorism. It is an insurgency attempting to take totalitarian control and that they are the bad guys.
There are MANY American liberals and conservatives saying that very thing in this country. BUT Barak Obama IS NOT. Not only is he not, but he sent Republicans John McCain and Lindsey Graham over there and THEY ARENT SAYING IT.
This is not a democrat/republican or liberal/conservative issue. This is a right and wrong issue and America should be providing moral clarity here.
Was totalitarian and only used
Obama has FAILED UTTERLY in the approach to Egypt and when the smoke clears, we will have lost an ally.
Our credibility has been pretty **** way before Mubarak was ousted.
But they gladly took our money.
People fail to realize that Egypt has been America's friend for 30 some years, and in those 30 some years, Egypt has played a key role in trying to keep peace in the area with Israel.
If America ever turned it's back on Egypt, if ever, it would be done so very reluctantly. It's not something we would want to do. No matter who is in charge, over there, or, over here. American politicians will still call out Egypt's rulers on how they're being too heavy handed with their citizens, at this point, it's about all we can do.

So this is a partisan issue?
Im sure the Romney administration would've just sent a flotilla of Latter Day Saints Bibles to Syria, and pray for their reconciliation.
Both parties answer to the military industrial complex, but only the GOP is proud of it.
So I guess we should have invaded Egypt to keep Mubarak in power, started a war with the Egyptian military/rebels, and then occupied another country? That's worked out so well for us in the past--I wonder why they didn't think of that!
Actually we wanted Mubarak out. Go read up on what we asked for and what he refused to do.

Thr naivety of our foreign policy amazes me to this day.
It was always going to be a no-win for the USA whoever was the President. Do we back a democratically elected government no matter how distasteful their politics or do we back the military?
The problem with backing the military is that, sooner or later, they end up getting overthrown and we end up with a very hostile ex-ally (e.g. Iran). The problem with backing the likes of the Muslim Brotherhood, democratically elected or not, is that their policies usually go against everything we stand for. And the problem with sitting on the fence is that everyone ends up hating you.

We didn't have a lot of choice--the Egyptians wanted him out. Short of an invasion, no country has the kind of global control that some of you think we have. Do you think sending American troops over there to forcibly run Egyptian elections would have gone over well? Do you think the outcome of a fair election would have been any different if we had? As I said, invasions haven't worked too well for us in the past. Sometimes other countries do stuff that we have to just sit back and watch, and then we play chess to keep our fingers in the pot so that we have SOME influence. That's what diplomacy is.
