Why, from reading posts in this forum, you would not believe it?

There are people who insist on living in fear 24/7. If they would turn off the news and go outside sometimes they would see that the sky isn't falling after-all.

I will note a couple things. Nobody should be expected to believe it simply because you say it's so with no verification and even then it's more complicated than that.

More people are surviving being shot today than 50-40-30-20 years ago.

What you would need to show is whether or not fewer are being shot.

They just turned the channel from mainstream media to the whacko portion of the internet media, specifically meant to cater to their thirst for fear. Indeed, it is their own fear that could harm all of us, a self-fulfilling prophecy. Step outside and see the world is not as bad as you think.

You do also have to think about the fact measuring other rates of crime such as robbery and rape have fallen too.

The homicide statistics are widely available. Tried pasting them and it did not come out too well. If you survive a shooting you are not a homicide victim.

Many of us know better.
This is not new news to me.

Links to US census and FBI data...let me guess? They are lying too?

Some people have a deep emotional investment in the notion that only the past was good and that everything is terrible today.

Crimes and Crime Rates - The 2012 Statistical Abstract - U.S. Census Bureau

Better medicine. Better response times. Waning of crack for more diverse/available drugs. Mandatory sentencing. Abortion legalized. Population shift from Midwest/Northeast to South/West Coast where cities are more spread out.
