Fast-Food Protests Under Way
This news have appeared on international media as well.

Fast food workers demand $15 an hour for living wage. Right now the current federal minimum wage is $7.25, and Obama called for a raise to $9 an hour.

Thursday 8/29 will be the day thousands of fast food workers across cities walk out of their jobs to strike. I guess no McDonald's, Wendy's or Taco Bell on Thursday...,
I hope each and every one of them get fired and replaced. That way they get NO money, they are fired for cause, and get NO unemployment.

I am sure that for every person who walked out on their job, there are 2 people wanting that job.

No, they don't.

And that's the main issue. People seem to feel entitled and think that if they have ANY job, that job should be able to support them (and their families) for life.

Nevermind the fact that said job has zero skill or education requirements and can be done by literally anyone - since they have the job, they think that's all they should ever need.

Lefties don't realize that most FF joints are franchised.

Someone risked their own money to better their lives by becoming small business owners.

Paying higher wages than the value of their labor will kill these small businesses.

I recommend that some of you lefties get together and buy franchises and pay that $15 an hour.

You won't.

The reality is labor costs are only about 3% of the cost of your average fast food meal and just about every other catagory in the price break down is larger.
SO if not enough Americans are willing to work at these establishments for $7/hour in order to find help the establishments will have to raise their wage.

They will always need workers it is just a matter of enough workers willing to work for that wage or not.

The only way unskilled labor can get $15+ an hour is if it were unionized. I have a friend who makes $30 an hour stocking shelves at A&P for 25 years.

I did the same thing - comparing Melbourne to Austin. Australia is unquestionably more expensive.

Melbourne and Sydney are both more expensive to live in than New York City.

The main problem is wages have not kept up with inflation. $7.25 would of been fine for the 90's but definitely not anymore.

Yup, and I bet your friend is preventing A&P from hiring 2 or 3 others at a third of the pay. And we have to pay more for our food.

Since we all know the Union would be oh so accomadating to hiring more people.

That is a fair argument.

The housing bubble, college bubble, tax bubble, etc. government caused inflation is responsible for that.
