Well it mattered to the owners obviously. Not everyone is okay with gay marriage.

Fighting a law you believe to be unjust is different from the actual running of the business.

That's the point. The law isn't unjust because they are small business owners. The law is unjust because they believe it violates another codified law or is immoral.

If I sell baby clothes I don't fight abortion laws because they negatively impact my business. I fight abortion laws because I believe they are illegal or immoral. (Just an example)

Wanting to change a law dependent upon its impact on you is not a sound idea. My life would be a lot easier if bank robbery was legal. That doesn't mean it should be legal though.

There is already a law for toxic chemicals!

I'm not blaming others. I am arguing the stupidity of the law they break. I already said it's not a decision I would have made and said "oh well" if they do feel.

As far as the LAW goes, I side with the business.
As far as their decision goes, I side with the CONSUMER.
They didn't close up shop because of some law, they closed up shop because of their actions and customers reacted with taking their business elsewhere. Stop blaming the government for something that was their own fault.

That wasnt dont you wish as in you, but it seems to be you think I was referring to you in that statement. Now that is interesting.

If I were 'forced' to make a wedding cake that I didn't want to, it may resemble the Leaning Tower of Pisa or something.
