Fired teachers seek audience with Pope over Catholic Church’s anti-gay stance – LGBTQ Nation

This pope has constantly portrayed himself as more "progressive" than his predecessor. Now, this group of gay brothers and sisters are attempting to get along. The pope really needs to "put up or shut up".

Listen, when someone decides to take a job at a private religious school, they sign a contract that states everything very clearly. The Catholic Church has very specific rules about sexual morality that their staff must uphold. This is not a gay issue (and I ABSOLUTELY support LGBT rights), but a Catholic morality issue. If a straight teacher is found to be living with a boyfriend/girlfriend without being married, they will be fired/contact not renewed. If an unmarried teacher becomes pregnant out of wedlock, the same thing will happen to her.

Now, I don't agree with what the article says about supporting a gay family member - I think that is taking things a step too far, and teachers should definitely protest that.

Again, I support LGBT rights, BUT if you decide to go teach at a Catholic school, you know what the rules are. If the Church ever changes on this, it is going to be very, very, very slowly.

I'm not anti-gay, but their argument runs along the line of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton being upset over not being accepted as members of the KKK. It's a big world and we all would be better off and just use common sense and not go where we are not welcome. It's nonsense like this that causes anti-gay sentiment.

I wonder if you could get fired for using birth control. It's a big no-no, yet over 90% of Catholic women use it.
The hypocrisy is astounding.

Why would a gay person work at a place that hates gays?

What makes Christians believe some sins are intolerable more or less compared to other sins? A sin is a sin. Don't be hypocritical.

I think a few have been canned for having kids out of wedlock.
